Q: What have our communities been seeing a need for lately? Are they looking for projects outside of the Ten Year Plan?

A: A lot of communities are looking at smaller projects and improvements that can be implemented outside of the TYP. An example is in Hopkinton Village at the intersection of NH 103 and 202, Main Street in Hopkinton Village. A conceptual design was drawn, and a temporary demonstration project was conducted, so when paving happened this summer the town, RPC, DOT Safety, DOT District were able to work together to make an improvement outside of the TYP. This type of project as well as general technical assistance to communities is an anticipated need in the next few years.

It is unclear what the next Ten Year Plan cycle will look like, but conceptual plans and cost estimates of traditional Ten Year Plan type projects are certainly not off the table.

Q: Has drainage been an issue for communities? Flooding and stormwater issues?

A: It is perhaps a moderate issue. We have seen communities concerned that aging NHDOT stormwater infrastructure is in need of replacement or upgrading. This has been folded into a few recent TYP eligible projects. In one case inadequate drainage infrastructure has prevented needed sidewalk upgrades from moving forward.
